Slab-based Bowl Project

This is the first ceramic piece I created this summer. I used a medium-sized beach volley ball, rolled out clay into little slabs with a rolling pin, then stuck the slabs onto the volley ball and mushed the edges together. I deflated the volley ball once the clay had turned into a leather stage, that way it wouldn't collapse. I had to use a lot of water and smoothing for this after wards to make it have a nice even texture. I added a lip to the top when I was almost done smoothing what I could on the bowl. I enjoyed making this, it was a lot of fun although it took a lot of time!

My Princess Melanie

This is a project I made while I was in my ceramics I class. The task was to create a cartoon character but adding your own personal touch to it. I consider this piece to be one of my very best! I absolutely love it. I love the textures and the colors I used as well, nice pastel colors. Her lips and hands were exagerrated and her dress flows outward with ruffles. I also liked the ability I had to create any character I desired & being able to add my own twist to the piece. I gave her to my mother and named her, "Princess Melanie."
